What was I tasked With?
I was in charge of redesigning RTR's enterprise portal that Hotel Staff used for booking specific inventory for guests. Booking can be in real-time or far in advanced.
Business Requirements
Breakpoints
I was informed that the portal needed to be accessible on both Desktops & Tablet use cases.
Simplification
The main priority of this project was to simplify how hotel staff visualizes the portal itself.
Layout Changes
The portal needed to have intuitive user interfaces that allows for hotel staff to be flexible on how the UI looks.
Understanding The Portal
While the requirements helped, I needed to get a better understanding of what I was working with & so I decided to layout all of my thoughts down, in order to determine what the best kind of process would be for this project.
Design Explorations
I did multiple design explorations in order to really get the juices flowing. I was a fan of the multi-step page concept but it was deemed too time & resource consuming.
The Multiple-page concept was one that was formed from when I was taking inspiration from form creation tool - Typeform. I was in favor of using this design because it allowed of users to go through the process of finding a Cabana (in this example) in a thorough step by step process.
The 1-page concept was deemed more favorable by the client but was riddled with multiple problems - which is expected because it was a low-fidelity exploration. With that said, I decided to expand upon the direction of this concept.
Final Designs
Layout Switching
Layout switching was a requested requirement by the client because of how many of their users complained that their original (see above) design was too confusing to view and made navigation more complicated. So with the card solution, giving users the option to switch is empowering their preferences.
Expanded Card View
The expanded card view, gives more depth of information for the inventory, whether or not to book that spot and also being more adaptable to the screen resolution by expanding/shrinking.
Advanced Booking Menu
The Advanced booking attribute now lives within a separate menu itself. This decision was made in order to give more breathing room for other UI elements and to allow it to become a primary focal point once clicked upon by the user.
