Storyboarding a Journey

Why Storyboarding

I used storyboarding to help me empathize with my users & as a way for me to dissect the story itself by understanding people's emotional journey.

What I Learned

Through storyboarding, I was able to pinpoint where there may be a 'opportunity gap' in the process of looking into UX bootcamps.

Figuring out 'the happy path'

Why Experience Mapping?

It allowed me to break down a 'process' into individual components and in turn helped me understand the relationships between each of these components.

Insights?

The main insight that I was able to identify was figuring out the 'happiest path' to finding a solution to the opportunity gap - finding important info on bootcamps.

Common Patterns

I have uncovered various patterns through my research amongst many of these bootcamps;

Bootcamps have outdated statistics

Out of the 11 bootcamps that I have looked into, only 2 of them have statistics from 2021 & of the 2, only 1 uses stats specifically from 2021 only.

Misrepresenting Job Outcomes

Bootcamps either do not have enough data to determine job outcomes OR they misrepresent outcomes by including data from past years/hiring their own students to enhance numbers.

Interesting Tidbits Learned

Springboard purports a Job Placement rate of 79% within 6 months, however, what springboard quantifies as a ‘qualifying position’ may range from an Internship to contracting roles.

Flatiron is the only bootcamp I've researched that has the most updated outcome report from 2021 & only 2021.

They purport a 95.2% job placement rate but that number is divided into 2 sections: 69.1% within 180 days of graduation & 26.1% after 180 days of graduation. The stats are further divided.

Why this Visualization

As the title suggests, the scatterplot visualization was used to discover previously unnoticed relationships between the 11 bootcamps.

Insights Learned

Bootcamps with average pricing for their full-time programs also have the most amount of time needed to complete the program - have job guarantees alongside their program.
